Woodland Conservation Fund's mission is to pioneer innovative solutions for the conservation of forest ecosystems and the wildlife they sustain. We collaborate closely with the US Forest Service on subjects related to forest access, scientific research, and trail management. Additionally, we play an important role in gathering essential data on high-risk fire zones and seeds from critical tree species, empowering informed decision-making to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our forests throughout the Western United States.
As our government resources have become overly stressed, combined with increases in forest change, we have witnessed a significant decline in the health of our National Forests. We assists all agencies to fill in any of the gaps where needed. This includes the scientific research, development and deployment of solutions focused solely on forest conservation.
Investing in forest health requires us to continuously work with agencies in the best ways to get solutions deployed in the field. Through the use of pack and riding horses, WCF is able to cover difficult and hard to navigate terrain, reaching areas that are otherwise inaccessible by more common means.
By supplying essential data and seed samples to U.S. Forest Service researchers and scientists, we enhance their capacity to address critical issues. With a primary focus on adaptive silviculture, reforestation, and mitigating high fire risk areas, the Forest Service's efforts are monumental. WCF and its volunteers play a pivotal role in executing data and sample collection, thereby contributing vital components to the future health and success of our forests, expediting the accomplishment of the USFS mission.
Our horses and mules deserve recognition for all they they do. Not only are they great companions, but they also help bring tools, research equipment, and people into the remote locations we work in. Additionally, they are able to transports a greater number of samples back to the nurseries and laboratories. We value our animals and treat them as individuals, each with their own talents and skillsets.
